The Sea of Knowledge is an ocean that surrounds the landmasses on the planet the book is set on. Strangely enough, even though Milo and Tock got wet swimming in it from Conclusions, the Humbug came out dry. This is never explained, although it is said to be a common occurrence.
They swam through the Sea of Knowledge to get back from the Island of Conclusions.To say Milo & Tock got wet while the Humbug did not, means that Milo & Tock both learned from the experience, while the Humbug did not. "Some folks swim all day in The Sea of Knowledge and never get wet."
